Quand la petite Anabel Greening apprend que son père, qui conduit une calèche dans Central Park, a postulé pour le rôle vedette d'un grand spectacle musical, elle est fort inquiète. S'il échoue, adieu la vie citadine. Elle sera obligée de partir pour le Nebraska. Quel cauchemar! Aussi demande-t-elle l'aide des fées. C'est alors que surgit Murray, un magicien plein de bonnes intentions mais inepte qui tout de go transforme son papa en statue de pierre.
